Road Trip Day Thirty-One

This morning we packed up for the trip to Billings by way of Mammoth and Gardner. We heard rumors that the camp bison was down the street so I sent the kids off to find the camp bison again before we left and they did:

We stopped in Mammoth and toured the hot springs for an hour or so. The drive there was pretty spectacular:

We were glad we had not made the trip yesterday as it was not high on the kid's list of favorite activities. I guess not everyone enjoys walking around a white, barren mound of calcium deposits in bright, 95 degree weather. You can feel the excitement:

After that We bid goodbye to Yellowstone and hello to Montana.

The drive to Billings was pretty uneventful and we reached our campground around 3pm, the Mother of all KOAs:

Toby is convinced that every KOA is required to have a camp pet. He may be right – this guy was on our porch when we pulled in:

We unpacked and the kids connected with their beloved wi-fi and cable, while Rebecca and I took a walk down to the Yellowstone river and had a quick swim. I suggested we go to Godfather's pizza which was the go-to pizza in the Laber family after losing our favorite, Shakey's. The location near our old house was closed but we found another location. All I can say is that the Classic Combo tasted a lot better in 1982 (but it was still pizza).

Tomorrow, lots more self-indulgent pictures of Billings!
