Road Trip Day Thirty

The day started with a debate about whether or not to try and drive up to the Mammoth Hot Springs area of the park as well as see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. We discussed doing that and then taking the scenic, high altitude Beartooth pass to Billings the following day, or to leave through Gardner the next day and see Mammoth then. We finally decided that less was more and went with the second option.

This allowed for more hang time in the cabin:

Meanwhile, Rebecca and I walked up to Canyon Village and did laundry and gassed up the car. Then we collected the kids and went up to the south rim of the canyon. We parked at the Uncle Tom trailhead and hiked up to Artist's Point:

Of course I had to get the iconic shot of the lower falls from Artist's Point:

And a few shots of the upper falls on the other end of the trail:

On the way back to our cabin we met the camp bison, who was rolling around in the sand in what is apparently one of his regular spots:

A little later we walked back to the village to pick up our laundry and have dinner in the cafeteria. In the laundromat the kids noticed that South Portland was not represented on the big map so they got a pin and rectified the situation:

On the way back we saw a doe and her two fawns:

Tomorrow we head to Billings!

As always, great pics, Chuck. Loved the rainbow shot! I’d seen bison out there, but nothing up close like that. Keep ’em coming!
