Road Trip Day Fourteen

Hey guys! It's Toby blogging again! Once you finish this blog entry, be sure to check out my youtube channel: Piewizard t. Now to get to blogging! So, we woke up in Saint Louis and switched on the tv, and we ate cereal. Not the most glorious breakfast, but oh boy, we would have better eating opportunities. Then we hopped into our car, and drove away from that fancy hotel. By the way, if you don't know which kid I am, here is a pic of me from an earlier entry.

Here are some pictures from the car. We drove through Missouri, Illinois and Kansas today.

Then we were in Kansas City. We couldn't decide which restaurant to go to for lunch, and eventually, we decided on a barbecue place called Woodyard barbecue, which was half restaurant, and half wood shop.

Nice photo!

Then we were seated. I had a soda which was Mountain Dew/ Dr. Pepper. I call it Dr. Dew. Then we ordered food. i got sausage and minced pork, and some cheese corn. Dad had chili. Calvin had ham and turkey. mom had a smoked turkey and bacon sandwich, because they were out of her precious pecan salmon sandwich

SO MANY FLIES! GRRRRR!

Illustration effect!

Then, we got back in the car, and drove through Kansas City

Nice close up of dad talking there.

Me and Calvin playing versus mode in advance wars dual strike, while watching batman. FUN!

Then, we stopped at Dairy Queen and got lemon meringue pie blizzards, mom got a turtle pecan blizzard.

Then out of nowhere, I asked “Can we do a Geocache?” and mom said “I doubt there will be one in a DQ parking lot, but you can check” So I did, and guess what? there was one! It was 23 meters away, so we set off to find it. We searched and searched, and then I backed up and REALLY looked at the fence. And boom. there it was.

Me signing the log.

First cache in Kansas. YES! So, then we hopped into our car AGAIN and drove off.

Then, we arrived at our KAO and went to check in. Dad started to check in, then I heard the lady at the desk say “There is a Television in your cabin” I think I literally jumped for joy (we don't have cable at home.) Then, I heard there was an ice cream social every evening! HOORAY! Then we went to our cabin and settled in. I immediately switched on the tv. About half an hour later, mom said “let's go get some ice cream.” so we went to the store/check in place. We all got orange floats. As mom was ordering, I felt a strange rubbing down by my feet. I looked down and saw a dog! (every KOA has a pet,) I petted it for a while, then it explored everyone else's feet. Then, I found out the dog's name is Sophie.

Then, we spent an hour in the cabin, and set off to the swimming pool, but first, the playground.

Then, back to the cabin.

Ladder shots.

I had trouble falling asleep worrying about tornados, but finally I did. Thanks for reading. Check out my channel please!

Nice post Toby. I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of an establishment described as “half restaurant, and half wood shop” – it looks like a place with a lot of personality! Also, I didn’t know that every KOA has a pet – that’s a neat fact. Hope you are enjoying your trip.

I was just listening to the author’s yesterday on a Rick Steves podcast and they were taling about “burnt end chili” which I see was one of the menu offerings. Maybe you can find some yummy places to try. Keep up the good work!

Nice job. Looks like you are covering great a great deal of miles. Love the food report from Toby.
How is Cal doing? Haven’t heard much from him. How have the long days been. Were the Mountains of Colorado pretty impressive? Did you go up in the Arch? The fireworks looked great. Glad you are all

Toby you have a gift for blogging. I am impressed and that is coming from a teacher who uses blogging in his classroom and has avidly blogged myself. You explain things very well, and capture a lot of the interesting details of your day that make us feel like we are right there with you. You all have convinced me that i have to travel and try out KOA’s. They seem really nice compared to some of the motels and hotels I have stayed in, lol. St. Louis has some good BBQ. I imagine it was better when they had stockyards right there in the city. Glad you are all having fun.
