This morning Rebecca and I woke up around 7:15 and found both kids still sleeping soundly. We had some breakfast out of the cooler and got out of the hotel around 10 and headed out to the Exchange Place Path station. We took the train back into the WTC station and then walked over to Blue line station, stopping at a Starbuck’s for reinforcement:
We took the express train up to Columbus circle and then switched to the local to get to 81st street and the Museum of Natural History:
We decided on the General Admission with one special activity and chose the Hayden Planetarium. We were there for 4 hours and probably saw less than half of the exhibits. We made sure to hit the Dinosaurs at least before museum fatigue set in and the call of street food became too much to resist:
After we left the museum, we grabbed some lunch at a stand on the street and ate across from the West Central Park entrance. We tried to do another geocache for Toby that was supposed to be at the base of the tree in the line of sight of the Theodore Roosevelt statue. This one ended poorly, without finding it and with Calvin cutting his leg on a low fence around a tree. I called a moratorium on geocaches, but I don’t know how successful I’ll be.
After lunch we walked through the park for a while and then found the Orange line subway station to take us down to Port Authority on 42nd street. We walked up to Rockefeller plaza to check out the Nintendo store and through a cool street pavilion that looked like it was a regular thing:
Finally we wandered back down to Times Square and everyone indulged photo ops for as long as they could stand it as I went through all the camera’s features: 2D, 3D, panoramic, etc:
Then we got on the red line back down near WTC, getting off at Chamber street and stopping off at a pizza place for a slice and the Amish Market near the Path station so Rebecca could get something to eat. When we got back to Jersey City we lingered near the river by our hotel and found that we could see pretty much all of the Manhattan skyline and even the Statue of Liberty:
Tomorrow we’ll leave Jersey City and drive down to Arlington. It will be a car, hotel and pool day which will be good since we can all use a break from two days of walking all over the city.
My feet are sore just from looking at the ground you covered. Way to maximum the NYC time.
Hi Doug! Yes it was a whirlwind tour. Tomorrow we do it again in DC, but right now I’m just living the glamorous travel life sitting in front of the one backed up washing machine in the Best Western waiting for my clothes to dry. Still beats work though!
I love this. I ALMOST feel like I’m there with you all. A new day, a new adventure!!! Love you guys.
Hi Guys,
You are certainly using all your time. I bet a down day was appreciated by all. We are enjoying all the pictures and commentary of your times. You all look great and we are so impressed with how much you have seen in such a short time. Continue to have fun but be safe. We love you lots. Kudos to the photographer. Love, Mom and Dad
